Say Hello to the SparkFun Thing Plus – QuickLogic EOS S3

For several years now, SparkFun has worked with Crowd Supply to find great products and connect with innovative creators. With the release of the Sparkfun Thing Plus - QuickLogic EOS S3, this collaboration went a step further by connecting SparkFun (known for rapid prototyping and open hardware) and QuickLogic (known for ultra-low-power FPGAs and SoCs for use in high-volume, power-sensitive applications) to jointly produce a small form factor, open source FPGA dev board with many unique applications.

Introducing the Sparkfun Thing Plus - QuickLogic EOS S3

This board is a prototype - final boards will be SparkFun red

QuickLogic EOS S3 MCU + eFPGA SoC, which includes QuickLogic’s embedded FPGA (eFPGA) technology with 2,400 effective logic cells and 64 KB of RAM, along with an embedded Arm^® Cortex^®-M4F MCU running at up to 80 MHz and providing 512 KB of RAM

Out-of-the-box support for machine learning algorithms, including support for SensiML Analytics Toolkit and TensorFlow Lite

• Low power consumption - the EOS S3 consumes very little power, making it suitable for remote and battery-powered applications
• SparkFun's Qwiic Connector, which uses 4-pin JST connectors to quickly interface with an ecosystem of 150+ I²C-compatible boards, sensors, LCDs, shields and relays without soldering, to make prototyping faster and less prone to error (learn more about the Qwiic Ecosystem)
• 100% open source hardware and software tools with support for FreeRTOS, Zephyr, nMigen, Docker and SymbiFlow

Possible Applications:

This low-power consumption board is ideal for IoT, TinyML and traditional MCU applications. Additionally, the eFPGA opens up many use cases, such as hardware offloading, I/O expansion, and real-time I/O control.

The QuickLogic and SparkFun teams are currently experimenting with many use cases, including air quality monitoring, voice processing and gesture recognition. Once the documentation comes together, we will be sure to share.
