A PIR Primer Project That's Anything but Passive

PIR motion sensors are an inexpensive and easy way to add a bit of hands-off interaction to many projects. If you want to create something practical, a sensor like this is perfect for making sure the lights in a room shut off if no one’s in there. Or perhaps you want something a bit more comical, like having a trumpet fanfare announce the arrival of anyone who enters a room.

Now anyone who knows me well will tell you that as much as I like to save money on my electric build, I like Mel Brooks even more. In fact, you might even go as far as to say that I’ve based my life on his teachings. So when it came for me to choose between a practical project or a comical one, well, that path was chosen long ago.

I'm using our new Qwiic PIR board with Panasonic's EKM-series sensor for plug-and-play hilarity!
