Hello and welcome, everyone! We are back with another Friday Product Post and this week, we are going to be focusing on FTDI and kits, with a neat little servo splashed in at the end! We begin the week with two versions of our popular FTDI Basic in both 3.3 V and 5 V. We've been asked to make it easier to get started with FTDI, so make sure to check those out. Following those, we have a starter kit for our FT231X Breakout! That one does require a bit of soldering, so make sure to brush up on those skills. We wrap up the week with a new sub-micro sized analog servo that should really help those needing a motor with a 120° rotation. Without further ado, let's dive in and take a closer look!
The SparkFun 3.3 V and 5 V FTDI Starter Kits give you just what you need to get started with FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The pinout of the included boards match the FTDI cable standard to work with official Arduino and cloned 3.3 V and 5 V Arduino boards. They can also be used for general serial applications. The DTR pins allow an Arduino target to auto-reset when a new Sketch is downloaded. This is a really nice feature to have, and allows a sketch to be downloaded without having to hit the reset button. These boards will auto reset any Arduino board that has the reset pin brought out to a 6-pin connector.
The SparkFun FT231X Breakout Kit provides you with everything that you need to get started with FTDI with the full UART hardware handshake feature! The pin-out of the included FT231X Breakout board matches the FTDI cable to work with official Arduino and cloned Arduino boards. It can also be used for general serial applications.
Servos can be found everywhere from heavy machinery, to power steering in vehicles, to robotics and a wide variety of electronics, so there are typically a plethora of options to choose from - but when you need a 120° rotation analog servo motor, this is the one! This servo is able to take in 6 V and deliver 13.90 oz-in. of maximum torque at 0.12 sec/60°.
That's it for this week! As always, we can't wait to see what you make! Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram or Facebook. We’d love to see what projects you’ve made! Please be safe out there, be kind to one another, and we'll see you next week with even more new products!
