micro:bit as a Fiddle

Can you believe we're already half way through June? This week we are happy to bring you two new versions of our popular micro:bit Breakout but we've updated a few things about them, like a new edge connector, Qwiic Connector, and micro:bit v2 support. Following that we are going to look at SparkX's new Fiber Simplex Breakout, and then a new stereo speaker. Now, let's jump in and take a closer look!

SparkFun Qwiic micro:bit Breakout

$5.95

The SparkFun Qwiic micro:bit Breakouts (both with and without headers) are boards that connect to the BBC micro:bit and expand the capabilities of the development platform by providing access to more pins and allowing for connections to the I2C and SPI buses. These breakout boards for the micro:bit’s edge connector allow intermediate and advanced users to connect the micro:bit to breadboards and other Qwiic sensors, motors, LEDs and more.

Fiber Simplex Breakout

Fiber Simplex Breakout

SPX-17509
$24.95

This board is actually a pair of boards! We wanted to design a product that gave you the bare minimum amount of support circuitry for playing with these modules from Industrial Fiber Optics. This product is for people who might not be connecting their fiber modules directly to a UART, and instead want to interface with them simply as an LED and a photodetector. Using a pair of pliers, the two sides of the Fiber Simplex Breakout can be snapped apart along the perforated line to create a one-way fiber link. Both the receiver and transmitter have four pins: VCC, Ground, Signal, and Inverted Signal.

Mini USB Stereo Speaker

Mini USB Stereo Speaker

COM-18343
$9.95

Add some crisp and compact audio to your project with this Mini External USB 2.0 Speaker. It's USB-only and does not require or use a 3.5mm audio jack but you'll get great audio, even with a device that doesn't have a head phone jack. With two built-in speakers and no battery or adapter needed, this plug-and-play speaker is perfect if you need a quick and portable audio solution.

That's it for this week! As always, we can't wait to see what you make! Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram or Facebook. We’d love to see what projects you’ve made! Please be safe out there, be kind to one another, and we'll see you next week with even more new products!

Never miss a new product!
