Hello all and welcome back to another Friday Product Post here at SparkFun Electronics! This we we have a single new whopper of a pre-order and it's the new AI Camera from Raspberry Pi! This camera module joins the line of extremely reliable and successful camera modules specifically designed for the pocket-sized computer. Let's take a closer look at this week's new product, shall we?
The Raspberry Pi AI Camera is a compact camera module from Raspberry Pi, based on the Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor. IMX500 combines a 12-megapixel CMOS image sensor with on-board inferencing acceleration for a variety of common neural network models, enabling users to develop sophisticated vision-based AI applications without the need for a separate accelerator.
The AI Camera transparently augments captured still images or video with tensor metadata, leaving the processor in the host Raspberry Pi free to perform other operations. Support for tensor metadata in the libcamera and Picamera2 libraries, and in the rpicam-apps application suite, make it easy for beginners to use, while offering advanced users unparallelled power and flexibility.
That's it for this week. As always, we can't wait to see what you make! Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. Please be safe out there, be kind to one another! We'll be back with more new products next week so make sure to check back then. Happy hacking!
